Welcome to Miss Rivera's Advisory!!!
Week of 5/22/17
The countdown until the end of the year has begun! We have a lot of fun events coming up Cinderella field trip on Thursday, The Lip Sync battle June 1 and Lunch with a loved one/field day at Grapevine Springs Park on June 6th. Mark your calendars and check for field trip slips!
Cinderella
We'll be taking a whole school field trip to see our spring musical Cinderella. Field trip slips have been sent home please return these to me by Monday 5/22. Tickets for the evening performance are available in the front office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Owl of the Month
I selected Haayllee for my Sportsmanship owl. Haayllee always has a positive attitude in the classroom and is a team player. She encourages and helps her peers whenever she can.
Lip Sync Battle
Students have been selected for the LipSync Battle, please see list in the hallway. Groups are to prepare two 2 minute songs to perform at the battle. Mrs. Acker and I sent out a letter explaining in detail the process.
NEW!! Grading System
We are in the process of changing how we evaluate students to standards based grading. There will no longer be letter grades on the report card, instead there will be a 1-4 number scale on individual common core standards. These numbers do not align to letter grades. They will give parents a clearer understanding of where your child is performing within each standard. If you have any questions on this new format please do not hesitate to contact me. Below is a breakdown of each number score:
4=Exceeding Standards (These will be given rarely)
Demonstrates superior understandings
Exceeds requirements for grade-level work
Consistently applies and extends learned concepts and skills independently
3=Meeting Standards
Demonstrates and applies knowledge and understanding of learned concepts and skills
Meets requirements for grade -level work
Completes work accurately and independently
2=Approaching Standards
Demonstrates partial understandings
Beginning to meet requirements for grade-level work
Requires some extra time, instruction, assistance and/ or practice
1= Below Standards
Demonstrates minimal understandings
Seldom meets requirements for grade-level work
Requires an extended amount of time, instruction, assistance and/ or practice
Remind Sign Up!
You can text @hk7k6f to the number 81010 to register.
We will continue to use Seesaw in our classroom. Your child will have his or her own learning journal, and you can get notified when your child adds new items. It's completely private -- only you can see your child's journal outside of class. Click on https://app.seesaw.me/s/248-938-946 to sign up -- it takes just 30 seconds.
Once you sign up, you can download the Seesaw Parent app for iPhone or Android, or access your child's journal on the web.
If you have more than one child using Seesaw, or want to add a new class/school year for your child, follow the link in this email, then click 'Sign in' tab at the top. You do not need to create a new account.
Lunch
If your child has food that is to be microwaved I ask that it be no longer than 2 minutes. Our classroom is a peanut and tree nut free classroom. Thank you for helping keep our children safe.
Drop Off/Pick up Procedure
In order for us to use all of our time in class effectively, I'm asking that students and parents say their goodbyes at line up. Parents will not be allowed to use the classroom as an exit, instead please use the hallway or outside gate.
If you have to pick up your child early from class, see the front office and they will come to get your child. At the end of the day we will exit using the side door near the patio cover.
Please visit other tabs to learn more about our class!
